Next Term

Wow what a fun term it has been!

Next term we will be moving onto exploring number bonds within place value in Maths and the children will be exploring the story of the Three Little Pigs in English through a non-chronological report and  creating their own “defeating the monster” story. We will also be introducing Religious Education into our afternoon sessions and Gymnastics into our indoor PE sessions.

Forest School will be on a Friday for 1B this term.

We are so looking forward to hearing all about what the children get up to over the half term break and what challenges they set themselves from our half term homework.

Please find below our class timetables for next term.

History – WW1 and Remembrance

The children have been learning about Remembrance and WW1. We had a WW1 box delivered from the Wilson Museum and the children had a great time exploring all the artifacts and they could even try on a jacket and helmet if they wanted to. We have started to display the children’s work around the school so other year groups can see what they are learning.

Visit from a Policeman

PSHE – Keeping us Safe

Year 1 had a fantastic day learning about the Police Force from a real life Policeman. He showed them all his equipment and explained what it is used for. The children were able to ask him lots of questions and some now even want to be a policeman when they grow up!

Forest School 1W

It was our last forest school session today and Mr Holdaway toasted marshmallows for us. We have had so much fun this half term, making dens, exploring nature, going on bug hunts and collecting leaves.

Here is some of the photos for you to see!

This week

In Maths the children are going to be exploring more than and less than a number in our Place Value unit. They will do this through practical exploration with a variety of resources and some challenges set by Challenge Cat.

In English we are moving on to writing Instructions of how to look after and grow a butterfly. We are looking forward to seeing the children having lots of fun in our HOOK session on Monday.

In Phonics we are continuing to work through phase 3 sounds as a class and will be introducing Phase 4 sounds for the children to practise in their phonics and spelling sessions.

Our afternoon sessions continue to have a big focus on continuous provision and learning through play, alongside some fun activities linked to Science and Music. As well as dedicated time to listen to the children read and exploring the Primary Talk strand of “Good Listening”.

English

In English this week the children have enjoyed innovating (changing) parts of our story “Butterfly Island”. We shared ideas about changing the main character and the setting of our story. The children then used their own story maps to write their story into their BEST books, using lots of interesting adjectives they had generated together as a class. We are sure they would love to tell you their new improved stories!
