POWER MATHS

Maths this year we will be exploring Power Maths to support our learning. Being successful in maths is not just about rote-learning procedures and methods, but is instead about problem solving, thinking and discussing.  Power Maths uses ‘Learning Power’ characters to prompt, encourage and question children. They spark curiosity, engage reasoning, secure understanding and deepen learning for all.

Meet our new friends!

Ash: is eager, interested and creative. He likes to imagine real life situations when solving problems and revise different areas of Maths so they are fresh in his mind. He is our curious friend.

Flo: During Maths lessons Flo likes to persevere and look for many different ways to solve problems. When planning her work, she likes to think carefully to ensure that she uses the most effective strategy to solve the problem. She is our flexible friend.

Astrid: Astrid’s favourite lesson is Maths. She is brave and likes to listen carefully to other people’s opinions. When she is given a challenge she becomes absorbed in it and perseveres until she succeeds. She is our brave friend.

Dexter: Dexter loves numbers. He likes to use questioning to deepen his understanding. He likes to collaborate with his peers as he doesn’t always choose the most efficient method. He is our determined friend.

Sparks: Sparks likes to give helpful tips and tricks to remind us of what we already know and what will help us.  Sparks also likes to challenge our thinking.

P4C Y1

This week in our P4C lesson we encouraged the children to discuss their thoughts and feelings about ‘change’. During the group discussion the children showed a good ability to understand the implications of ‘change’, giving examples such as Reception to Year 1, having a new baby, older siblings leaving home for university and parents working from home during lockdown.

History Y1

This week in History we talked about the children’s past and significant events that happened in their lives. Together we created a timeline of events and we spoke about why we celebrate things. The children have enjoyed sharing their pictures and we loved hearing their stories.

Science Y1

Year 1 have started their topic on Animals Including humans. For our first lesson we were busy learning the body parts. We had fun drawing around some of the children and adding labels. We even played a game of ‘Simon Says!’

Classroom Rules

We have been very busy coming up with our own classroom rules. We want to make our classrooms a safe, happy place for our year one family to learn in.

The children know so much about making the right choices and knowing how to be the best they can be.

We than did some hand painting to sign that we will follow these rules.

Look how great they look on our classroom displays.

Welcome!

Welcome to Year One! The children have had such a fantastic start to the year and have amazed us with how well they have settled in. We can not wait to watch them grow, learn and have fun this year.

We have attached the three classes Timetables for you to see, however this will be explained and talked through at our ‘Meet the Teacher’ session. This timetable may be subject to change if we have visitors/enrichment experiences happening in school however this is our aim.

Y1Timetable_Autumn 1 (1)
